Fall and Winter

Fall and Winter

If you receive your Empress Tree during these seasons then your tree is either dormant or going into dormancy.  Do not be alarmed if you have no leaves or a broken stem.

Your tree naturally wants to drop its leaves, stop growing above ground and focus on development below the ground.  The roots can continue to grow in search of water.  An established root structure will help the plant shoot up faster once spring comes.

Your stem will naturally be brown.  If you suspect that your tree may be dead, scratch the stem near the root.  If it’s green or a flesh colour then it’s alive.

For best results we recommend that you do the following:

  • Watering your tree. (Water only when soil is dry)
  • Place in full sunshine.  (At least 4 hours of direct sunlight a day)
Do not fertilize right away, wait at least one month after spring has arrived.
  • If you have planted your tree in a pot, bring the container in if there is a hard      freeze or a torrential rain. Place back outside once this passes.

If you live a moderate climate then you can plant in the ground all year round.
